NH-65 Hyderabad–Vijayawada Highway Expansion: ₹10,391 Crore 6-Lane Mega Project

The Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway (NH-65) is getting a massive upgrade. The government has launched a ₹10,391.53 crore project to expand the existing four-lane highway into a six-lane corridor, covering a total length of 231.32 km. The move aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and strengthen economic activity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Project Overview
According to official reports, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be completed by November 2025, followed by the tendering process by March 2026. Construction activities will begin immediately after approvals.

The expansion will stretch from Dandumalkapur (near Andole Maisamma Temple) in Telangana to Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Officials have estimated an average cost of ₹44.92 crore per km.

Key Project Components
Construction cost: ₹6,775.47 crore

Land acquisition and other costs: ₹3,616.06 crore

Total land required in Andhra Pradesh: 162 hectares

Key structures: 4 flyovers, 17 vehicle underpasses/overpasses

Junction upgrades: 33 major, 105 minor

Greenfield development: 22.5 km

Commuter facilities: 94 rest areas, 16 bus shelters

Economic and Regional Impact
The NH-65 corridor is one of South India’s most critical trade and travel routes. Once widened, it will:

Reduce congestion and pollution

Support logistics and supply chains between Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Guntur, and Vijayawada

Trigger industrial growth and real estate development along the route

Enhance safety and reduce travel time by nearly 30%

Authorities are coordinating with departments like NHAI and Roads & Buildings to finalize details by the end of October 2025. Once complete, this project is expected to become a model for future inter-state highway expansions across India.
